The Key Lab of Shenzhen for Organic Pollution Prevention and Control was established in August 2016 on a total land area of 200 m2. It is equipped with advanced instruments and equipment such as gas chromatograph, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, ion chromatograph, high performance liquid chromatograph, thermal desorption spectroscopy, time resolved fluoro immunoassay and fourier transform infrared spectrometer.

With a focus on the demands for controlling the organic pollution, the Lab takes “research on methodology and technology of organic pollutants” as the technical controlling support, “research on analytical methodology and technology of organic pollutants” as the technique basis, “research on transportation and transformation of organic pollutants” as the theoretical basis, and “research on health effects of organic pollutants” as a warning signal to achieve the prevention and controlling of organic pollution based on a scientific outlook.

Currently, there are four major research focuses in the lab.

1. The research on methodology and technology of organic pollutants mainly focuses on degradation and purification of organics in the air, water and soil to provide theoretical basis and technical support for the controlling of organic pollution. The current research focus of the Lab is the methodology and technology of purification under normal and low temperature with specific topics including deep UV oxidation technology, ozone catalytic oxidation technology, photo-catalytic and purification technology, catalytic oxidation under microwave heating, absorption purification technology, bio-purification technology and eco-purification technology.

2. The research on transportation and transformation of organic pollutants mainly focuses on the analysis of the organic pollutants in the air, water and soil to provide technical support for prevention and control of organic pollution. The Lab concentrates on the research related to new analytical methods and technology, including the TVOC quick test technology, analytical techniques of trace organic nitrogen and organic sulfur.

3. The research on transportation and transformation of organic pollutants focuses on transportation and transformation of the organic pollutants in air, water and soil to provide theoretical basis and guidance for prevention and control of organic pollution. Specific research topics include  formation mechanisms and source apportionment of PM2.5, spatial and temporal distribution of typical organic pollutants, interface behavior of typical organic pollutants through various environmental media, and transportation and transformation of typical organic pollutants in ecosystem (including plants, animals and human beings).

4. The research on health effects of organic pollutants can help us to identify the warning signals for prevention of organic pollution. Specific research topics include pollution characteristics of typical organic pollutants, toxicology of emerging organic pollutants, system and methodology of typical organic pollutants health risk assessment.
